Printronix P5000 Printer Technical Note
CTX-002

Using non PCL-II printers with PrintNet in the HP3000 (MPE/iX) environment

Summary:

To use non PCL-II printers with PrintNet in the HP3000 (MPE/iX) environment, a few things need to be noted.

Resolution:

1) No PCL-II in the Printronix printer, so be careful with the applications.

2) No PJL, so no jam recovery, or page level recovery is possible.

3) If you accidentally leave pjl_support = TRUE or undeclared you may get an unwanted PJL reset command. (<ESC>%1234565x>CR><LF>).

Follow the steps below to configure the printer.

1) run npconfig.

2) Set up the device as 33 (network_address =xxx.yyy.zzz.www)

3) tcp_port_number =9100

4) pjl_supported = FALSE

5) snmp_enabled = FALSE

6) banner_trailer = TRUE or FALSE, both will work

7) jam_recovery = FALSE

8) setup_file = name*

*create an empty setup file to override the global entries. The file must be unique, and unnumbered.
