Introducing Version 2 (Ultimate) Shuttles for the P5000

Introducing Version 2 (Ultimate) Shuttles for the P5X05B, P5X10 and P5X15 printers.
Resolution:

V2 (ULTIMATE) SHUTTLES were introduced in November of 2002. If you take the 4th digit of the printer’s serial number as the year when the chassis was built and the 5th and 6th digit of the week of that year, then the V2 Shuttles would have been phased into the following serial numbers: S/N 080247… …, S/N 180247… … , S/N 280247… … , S/N 380247… … , S/N 480247… ….

These new V2 shuttles were made to fit into the P5X05B, P5X10 and P5X15 printers. These shuttles have a newly designed “Steel Cover” with the hammer bank cover and ribbon mask joined together and installed magnetically to the hammer bank, improving ease of replacement. The older V1 shuttles have the hammer bank cover and ribbon mask as separate parts that are attached to the hammer bank by screws.

How to Identify

To visually identify which version of shuttle is installed without removing it, look at the ribbon mask. The top edge of the V1 ribbon mask has an opaque mylar strip attached by adhesive across the width of the ribbon mask. The V2 ribbon mask has its top edge folded over with no strip attached.

The V2 shuttles also have a new hammer fret design, (with key), that allows for backwards compatibility when installing these frets onto the V1 shuttles. The older V1 frets are not forward compatible. This new fret design offers improved hammer impact and dot placement consistency.

163985-901 - Shuttle Assy, P5X10, V1 replaced by 174958-901 - Shuttle Assy, P5X10, V2.

157735-901 - Shuttle Assy, P5X15, V1 replaced by 174959-901 - Shuttle Assy, P5X15, V2.

The V2 Shuttle Assemblies are forward and backward compatible.

164266-001 - Field Kit, Fret, P5X05B replaced by 174965-901 - Hammerspring Assy, P5X05, V2.

164267-001 - Field Kit, Fret, P5X10 replaced by 174966-901 - Hammerspring Assy, P5210, V2.

164269-001 - Field Kit, Fret, P5X15 replaced by 174967-901 - Hammerspring Assy, P5215, V2.

The V2 Hammersprings are backward compatible. The older frets are not forward compatible.
