P5000 Series Printers (P5B/10/15) Features and Parts-vs-P5000 Series (P5A/9/14)

This Technical Bulletin lists the features of the P5000 series printers, P5B/10/15, and lists unique parts different from the P5XXX printers (P5A/9/14, 500, 900 and 1400 lpm models).

The P5000 series printers, P5B/10/15, consist of 5 models:

P5005B 500 lpm pedestal model
P5205B 500 lpm cabinet model
P5010 1000 lpm pedestal model
P5210 1000 lpm cabinet model
P5215 1500 lpm cabinet model

The P5000 series printers, models 05B/10/15 have several outstanding features that contribute to the ease of low cost service; Auto Ranging Power Supply, long life hammers which require no adjustment or alignment, combined Controller/Mechanism design, self-contained Shuttle assembly with built-in Hammer Driver PCBA. Superior diagnostic and automatic self-monitoring features, Centronics and RS232 interfaces built-in and configurable from a liquid crystal display control panel.

The CMX 40 controller will now be used universally by all printer models. This change will help in the processing speed of complex applications found in today’s work place environments. Another significant change is in the re-design of the hammer bank cover assembly. The single piece unit, as found in the earlier models, has now been separated in two parts, ribbon mask and cover assembly. A benefit found in separating these parts is the reduction in cost when having to replace only the ribbon mask as compared to replacing the whole assembly. Also, the hammer cover assembly is now bolted onto the hammerbank frame resulting in more precise hammer-tip protrusion and better print quality over a broader range of forms.

Parts differences between the P5000 series printers and the P5XXX (P5A/9/14) series of printers is minimal. The parts differences are the Shuttle, Hammer Bank Cover, Ribbon Mask and the use of the 40 MHz controller PCBA in all models.

The shuttles are changed to accommodate the change in speed from the previous models and the frets are changed slightly from previous versions. The ribbon masks are changed to improve their operation and mounted differently to decrease the distortion and movement of the mask during printing. The ribbon mask is now attached by 6 Torx head screws. The hammer bank cover plate is also changed and is attached with 12 Torx head screws. The Torx head screws are becoming popular because they are less prone to stripping and tolerances can be closer due to low head profile. The Torx size screw driver used with these printers is Torx-10.
