Minimum Memory Requirements for Emulations

Minimum memory requirements for the emulations on the P5XXX and P5000 series printers. Rev D updates the chart to include the releases on 01/25/99.

Here is a chart showing the minimum memory requirements for the emulations on the P5XXX and P5000 series printers. This issue frequently comes up when upgrading customers to a different emulation or when someone may be ordering a printer. If the printer does not have enough memory, the emulation in most cases will not load correctly or the printer will appear hung when recycling power. Memory upgrade must be ordered if the printer does not have enough memory.

Printers currently shipping have 4 MB Flash and 4 MB DRAM as standard.

If a customer needs the 2 Mb Flash version of PGL/VGL, please use the following release. This release does not have the international character-set and is intended for those customers that need a PGL/VGL update but do not have enough memory for the later releases.

NOTE: 'IGP' emulation kits contain both PGL and VGL.
'IGP' emulation kits do not include Flash memory as part of the kit.
'CT' and 'IPDS' kits include memory to upgrade to minimum requirements as noted above.

It is important to note, that adding extra memory to the printer does not improve its performance. Each emulation requires a certain amount of memory to run and any more than that is not used.
