Resolution:
The P5005 and P5008 models, for a short time during
manufacturing, had some over-spray on
areas in the paper path. The problem is slight over-spray in the
rib area of the cover and at the
output throat area. Here is a brief procedure to use to help
remove this overspray.
Using 600 grit sandpaper make 5 or 6 passes over each rib
area, not the sides of the ribs. Do
not do too much as the intent is to make the surface smooth by
removing only the over-spray
that gives it a rough feeling. See Figure 1. Using 600 grit
sandpaper make 5 or 6 passes
inside the top part of the output throat, over the last 2 inches
of the paper path, at the paper exit.
As noted above a lot of sanding is not needed, just enough to
eliminate the over-spray. See
figure 2.
Printronix also recommends installation of a kit that can be
ordered that has shims and
foam insulation to lift the lid slightly in its closed seated
position. The parts in the kit
alter the paper path enough to resolve most form feed problems.
The kit part number is
156361-001.
